Detergents

Valtech Corporation is a speciality chemical company specializing in the manufacture of formulated detergents for the cleaning of ophthalmic lenses and precision optics.

VALTRON® Detergents are formulated from high purity components and are supplied in liquid concentrate for dilution with deionized water. Typical dilution rates for VALTRON® detergents are 0.5 to 2.0% by volume depending on the type and amount of contamination to be removed.

The primary types of contamination to be removed from lenses and precision optics are micron and sub micron particles, hydrocarbon films, mould releases and polishing slurries. 

The selection of the VALTRON® detergent is dependant on the type of cleaning equipment being utilised:

In-line spray wash cleaning systems utilize jets or high pressure nozzles to spray detergent solution onto the lenses followed by several DI water spray systems to rinse the lenses, followed by a drying chamber. This system is usually used for cleaning polycarbonate ophthalmic lenses and the glass moulds used in the manufacture of the lenses. The VALTRON® “SW” detergent series as well as VALTRON® DP98014 are recommended for this application.

Ultrasonic and Megasonic cleaning systems are used for cleaning precision optics to remove polishing slurries, such as cerium oxide or cleaning the lenses prior to the coating processes. VALTRON® SP22000 Alkaline detergent and VALTRON® SP2275 Neutral pH detergent are very effective in removing particles and fingerprints and are completely free rinsing from the surface of the lenses and/or substrates.

In many optical manufacturing operations blocking waxes must be removed from the lenses. VALTRON® SP2200 is an excellent candidate to replace solvents that are commonly used to remove paraffin or bees wax. Typically a 10% by volume solution of the VALTRON® SP2200 detergent, heated to 8 - 12°C above the melting point of the wax is very effective.
