Hydroblock™ Water Soluble Blocking Compound

Hydroblock™ has been developed to address the need for a high quality water soluble blocking compound for RPG contact lens manufacturers.  Hydroblock™ combines the best features of the traditional waxes and pitches used in production of contact lenses with good water solubility.  The result is a product that can provide the strong, non flexible surface needed for precise tooling of the lenses with a simple water cleanup.

Hydroblock™ is available in two separate formulas for use in both automatic equipment (orange) and with manual spinblockers (blue).

Currently there are two different types of blocking compounds.  One type is based on paraffin wax.  These waxes hold well and can be used at relatively low temperatures (130-150°F).  However, they are completely insoluble in water, and can be cleaned off only with solvents.  This is not environmentally friendly and can cause damage to the lenses.  The other type of blocking compound is water soluble, but is not rigid enough to provide a firm base for tooling.  Also, they only are available in a version for mechanical blockers.   

Hydroblock™ is a new type of blocking compound that uses adhesive technology to provide a very hard and rigid base for tooling along with good water solubility.  It has been formulated for use in both mechanical and manual spin blocking equipment.  No other product combines excellent blocking capabilities and good water solubility.
